IPG Photonics recently announced the launch of their new LightWELD 2000 XR handheld laser welding and cleaning system. This product boasts 2 kilowatts of laser power, offering increased processing speed and the ability to weld thicker materials compared to previous models. It is designed to improve productivity and versatility for fabricators, allowing for faster and deeper welding on a variety of materials including steel, aluminum, titanium, and copper. In addition, IPG Photonics has undergone a significant leadership transition. Dr. Mark Gitin has been appointed as the new CEO, effective June 5, 2024, succeeding Dr. Eugene Scherbakov. Dr. Gitin, who previously led the Photonics Solutions Division at MKS Instruments, brings over 30 years of experience in the lasers and optics sector. Dr. Scherbakov, a co-founder of IPG, will continue to serve on the board and act as an advisor to the new CEO.
